Our cookie policy and how we use them

Last updated: December 2024

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. They help the website remember your preferences, understand how you use the site, and improve your experience.

Similar technologies include web beacons, pixels, and local storage, which we may also use. This policy covers all such technologies.

2. How We Use Cookies

Sentinely uses cookies for the following purposes:

2.1 Essential Cookies (Required)

These cookies are necessary for the Service to function properly. Without them, you would not be able to use core features. They enable:

  • User authentication and session management
  • Security features and fraud prevention
  • Load balancing across our servers
  • Remembering your login state

You cannot opt out of essential cookies as they are required for the Service to operate.

2.3 Analytics Cookies

We use analytics cookies to understand how visitors interact with our website. This helps us improve the Service and user experience. Analytics data is aggregated and anonymized.

We may use services like Google Analytics or similar tools. These cookies collect information such as:

  • Pages visited and time spent on each page
  • How you arrived at our site (referral source)
  • General geographic location (country/city level)
  • Browser and device type

3. Third-Party Cookies

Some cookies are placed by third-party services that appear on our pages. These services help us provide and improve our Service:

3.1 Authentication Providers

  • Google OAuth: If you sign in with Google, Google may set cookies to manage the authentication process. See Google's Privacy Policy.

3.2 Payment Processing

  • Stripe: Our payment processor uses cookies for fraud prevention and to process payments securely. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.

4. Managing Cookies

4.1 Browser Settings

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:

  • View what cookies are stored on your device
  • Delete individual cookies or all cookies
  • Block cookies from specific websites
  • Block all third-party cookies
  • Clear cookies when you close the browser

Note that blocking essential cookies will prevent the Service from functioning properly. You may not be able to log in or use core features.

4.2 Browser-Specific Instructions

For instructions on managing cookies in your browser, please visit:

4.3 Opting Out of Analytics

To opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

5. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting that sends a signal to websites requesting that your browsing activity not be tracked. Currently, there is no industry standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. Our Service does not currently respond to DNT signals, but you can manage cookies as described above.

6. Cookie Retention

  • Session Cookies: Deleted automatically when you close your browser
  • Persistent Cookies: Remain on your device until they expire or you delete them. Our persistent cookies typically expire within 1 year.
  • Authentication Cookies: May persist for up to 1 year if you choose "Remember me" during login

7. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

For significant changes, we may provide additional notice, such as an email notification or a prominent notice on our Service.
